Crime & Public Safety
- A high-speed chase ended in Burley with the arrest of Roman Hamann, a habitual felon and parole violator. Police used a PIT maneuver to stop him after he endangered lives. He now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
- New records show Pocatello police had prior mental health calls involving Victor Perez, the 17-year-old autistic, non-verbal teen with cerebral palsy who was fatally shot in April. His family is now suing and demanding an independent investigation.
- Two young children were life-flighted to Boise after a Ford F-150 hit a bull elk and rolled on I-84. A 7-year-old with a seatbelt and a 5-year-old without one were both seriously injured near milepost 11 late Thursday.
Courts & Legal
- Ada County is summoning thousands for juror questionnaires ahead of the Kohberger trial. Jury selection starts August 4, with opening statements expected August 11. The trial may last through November.
Infrastructure & Transportation
- Dierkes Lake Road has reopened, completing the Shoshone Grade reconstruction project. Access to both Dierkes Lake and Shoshone Falls Parks is fully restored after months of improvements.
Caregiving & Health

Energy
- The Pacific Northwest expects a 17% increase in hydropower output this year due to strong winter precipitation. However, output will still remain below the 10-year average, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

- Twin Falls Western Days begins today at City Park! The three-day festival features food, live music, and family activities—including a Saturday morning parade and a Butterfly Haven for kids. Up to 30,000 people are expected to attend.
Sports
- Caldwell School District may drop its pay-to-play sports fees following a successful $8.2 million levy passed in November. Athletes were previously charged $100 per sport. A final decision will be made June 9.
